It’s official

We closed on the house this morning and we’re homeowners again! Yaaay! It’s been a long ride, but we’re close to the end.

There is still some work to be done, so don’t tune out yet. There are some finishing things in the kitchen, paint touch ups, more excavating behind the house, followed by concrete out front and on the first 50 ft of our driveway (thank you city of rapid city). But things are winding down.

Oh yeah, and we should probably get some furniture. Although we’re kind of digging the minimalist look.

New goodies

Scott and Mark finished up the flooring on Tuesday, just in time for the cabinets to arrive on Wednesday. By the end of Wednesday, they had all the kitchen cabinets in. Mrs. Carlsberg said she opened and closed every single cabinet and drawer. She’s practicing. There is so much cabinet space in this kitchen, I think we’ll be able to have a separate cabinet for bowls and another for spoons and another for cutting boards – it’s bananas.

The doors and all the trim also showed up this week, so our garage is chock full of new goodies. Scott and Mark say it feels like Christmas with all the fun stuff they’re opening.

We think the floor might look pretty good (from what we can see.) As soon as they nailed it down, they promptly covered it with cardboard to protect it. It sounds like it’ll pretty much stay that way until we move in. So we’re looking forward to that reveal.

The tile showed up this afternoon, so tile is next on the list.

The most popular room in the house

We got to see a 3-D rendering of our kitchen incorporating our cabinet choice. We’re going with a shaker style cabinet (we like the more modern look of them.) The wood will be Alder and the color will be darker than what you see here. We’re still not sure what we’re doing for countertops yet.

We were actually surprised to see how much cupboard space we’ll have. We’ll finally be able to unpack all those great wedding gifts we received 3 years ago.
