Lots happening

Where to start?

We met with the city this week and asked them to give us another variance. We’re so demanding! This one allowed us to only pave the first 50 ft of our driveway instead of the first 150 ft the public works dept wanted. They gave it to us. Yay.

Tiling is in full force at Carlsberg Manor. Floors, walls, upstairs, downstairs, bathrooms, bars, there is tile going down everywhere. There were some small cracks in the floor of the basement that gave Scott and Mark some minor concern. They were worried the cracks might crack the tile after it was installed. Randall (our flooring expert) turned them on to a rubber underlayment that allows the floor under the tile to move, but holds the tile in place. Technology is great, right?

We have lights in the basement!

We have some outlets now.

We bought a water softener tonight. It will help keep us soft.

Our plumber decided to stop being antagonistic and recommended a better, cheaper and more efficient tankless water heater. After rebates, it’ll be about the same cost as a regular water heater install. Thanks Jimbo.

Our custom Dennis Thompson cabinets were delivered this week. We’ll be installing them in the laundry room. They’re even stamped by him! Too cool.

But the best news of the week was finding out our house payment will be about $400 less per month. I blame it on my paltry math skills. I’m more of a picture guy.

New goodies

Scott and Mark finished up the flooring on Tuesday, just in time for the cabinets to arrive on Wednesday. By the end of Wednesday, they had all the kitchen cabinets in. Mrs. Carlsberg said she opened and closed every single cabinet and drawer. She’s practicing. There is so much cabinet space in this kitchen, I think we’ll be able to have a separate cabinet for bowls and another for spoons and another for cutting boards – it’s bananas.

The doors and all the trim also showed up this week, so our garage is chock full of new goodies. Scott and Mark say it feels like Christmas with all the fun stuff they’re opening.

We think the floor might look pretty good (from what we can see.) As soon as they nailed it down, they promptly covered it with cardboard to protect it. It sounds like it’ll pretty much stay that way until we move in. So we’re looking forward to that reveal.

The tile showed up this afternoon, so tile is next on the list.
